In 1969, fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez met Karl Lagerfeld at the suggestion of the editors of French Elle, who proposed that Lopez sketch a collection for Chloé, the French fashion brand for which Lagerfeld was then creative director. For his second ready-to-wear collection for Fendi, artistic director Kim Jones looked to the artwork of Antonio Lopez, an old friend of Jones’s predecessor Karl Lagerfeld.
Fendi takes on the works of Puerto Rican-American fashion illustrator and artist, Antonio Lopez via their two icons – the Peekaboo and Baguette. We look back at the illustrators’ association with Karl Lagerfeld, how it shaped fashion and is now the muse for these collector-worthy pieces.
